Puberty animations!

In the Supernovas team (Yr 7-8)we got to choose what to do for our inquiry around puberty. The choices were: making an animation, a puppet show or writing a song!
Some friends and I created an animation using an app on the Ipod touches! We had to include the changes to us and the social changes that happen in puberty!
We had to make a storyboard which is what you plan your movie on! After that you start making the movie! Its hard to use the app on such a small screen but it got much easier when we learnt how to use it. We took turns animating the movie and it was finally finished! we thought we did a really good job!

Year 7 and 8 earthquake art

About 2 weeks ago the Supernova team got to choose an art that relates to our earthquake inquiry. There was different types of art, there was drawing and painting before an earthquake, during an earthquake and after an earthquake and the effects on buildings in room 1 Here is a photo of someone's artwork. We made earthquake soundscapes useing garageband which start out nice and calm and then during an earthquake and after in room 2. In room 3 we made interviews and in the interview their was 1 interviewer and about 3 people that explain how and why earthquakes happen. The people that passed are now going to make model buildings useing materials and then they will be put on an earthquake simulator that Mr Brown has made and we will see if the buildings have stood up in a magnitude 7 earthquake!

Staff v Students Rugby League

Wednesday 13 April was Red and Black Day at Oaklands. The mufti day was held to raise money for the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
Also featuring on this day was the Staff v Students rugby league game. As the photos show all parties were very loyal to their home province as far as colour of uniform goes but that must have proved to be difficult to separate the teams...........or was it not??
As you can see there was a lot of running, passing and dodging in order to score points.
Who won, the staff say they did. The score, that has yet to be determined!!!
Did everyone have fun???? YES.
Enjoy the photos.

Super novas trip to the red zone!

Next term the Super novas are going on a trip to see the "red zone" in town! The trip is part of our inquiry which is on the Christchurch earthquake and why earthquakes happen. We will be going to the cordon that blocks off the "red zone" so we will have a small look into the red zone and see lots of the buildings that collapsed! We will take our topic books and research why these buildings have come down! Here's a photo of the Christchurch Cathedral because it is one of the damaged buildings that are in the red zone!
I am looking forward to it because I haven't seen the damage yet!
